Happy Wednesday,

The ballot question to remove English as Allentown’s official language failed yesterday 2-1. For now English will remain the official language of the City of Allentown.

Please open Milestone 3 Stepping Stone 1 - your practice questions. We will review the Civil War and then you will complete the practice and move on to the assessment.

Good morning and Happy Monday!

Tomorrow is ELECTIN DAY!! Those of you who are registered to vote - enjoy your first election! If you are not yet registered to vote, tag along with someone who is! Don’t forget the important ballot question about removing English as Allentown’s official language - more information about that HERE. Remember - the ballot will only say “Shall Paragraph B of Section 101 of the City of Allentown Home Rule Charter be removed from the Charter?” A vote of “yes” will remove the part of the Charter that makes English the official language of Allentown. A “no” vote means English remains the official language of Allentown city government.

Today we will continue our study of voter turnout with Milestone 3, by looking at historic elections and how events can impact whether people vote. At the end of Milestone 3 we will be examining voting behavior in Allentown.

Please open Milestone 3 Stepping Stone 1 (task dashboard) and wait for me to begin.

Happy Friday.

Today we complete the documentary All In: The Fight for Democracy.

  1. Collect your notes from the front of the room.

  2. After the film is over you will split into 2 groups:

  • If your notes have a checkmark on top, you are ready to move on to the Milestone 2 Assessment in Task Dashboard. I will review the directions with you and you will work independently.

-If your notes have a star on top - please move to a table with a group of other students who also have a star. Working together, complete the notes in the packet. Show me when you are done so that you can move on to the Milestone 2 Assessment. I will be joining each of these tables to help.

Good Morning!

Today is our last day to watch All In: The Fight for Democracy!

Complete your note packets, and leave them with Ms. Salter to review. Tomorrow you will be groups based upon who is ready to use their notes to begin their writing assignment and who needs to work with others to complete their notes.

For those who are voting in November, I have printed an article about the proposed removal of English as the Official Language in the City of Allentown. See me if you’d like a copy.

Today we will be moving on from people who choose not to vote to people who are prevented from voting.

  1. Collect a graphic organizer packet from the front of the room and review the questions. Be sure you have something to write with.

  2. For the next 2-3 days we will be watching a film: All In: The Fight for Democracy. You will use the Graphic Organizer packet to take notes. Make sure your name is on the packet - leave it here each day and collect it again at the start of class.

Good morning students!

  1. Today we are starting with our final discussion - Voting Rights in the US Territories. If you are joining in this discussion, please sit at the center table at the front of the classroom. Everyone else should be at the other tables in the room.

  2. Once the discussion is done we will be splitting into 2 groups.

If you participated in one of our 3 discussions, please work independently to complete and submit the Milestone 1 Stepping Stone 4 reflection.

If you did not participate in any of the discussions (if you have an M for preparation/participation in the Milestone 1 Assessment), you will be working in a small group with me.

Jose M and Roberto - please see me - you are eligible to register to vote!
